The Newark Fire Department was called to Universal Veneer on Tamarack Road around 2:40 Wednesday afternoon in response to someone falling into an empty vat.

Officials say 38-year-old Richard Roberts of Newark was doing some maintenance on the vat when he fell about 15 feet into it.

Roberts was transported to Licking Memorial Hospital, but officials say his injuries weren’t life-threatening.

Officials say the vat is usually filled with boiling water and is used to prepare logs for manufacturing.
