An autopsy has determined that an inmate at the Multi-County Juvenile Detention Center in Lancaster died from acute methadone drug effects with cerebral edema and pulmonary edema.

16-year-old Brian Folden of Canal Winchester was found unresponsive in his cell around 3 a.m. April 30th when a guard conducted a routine sweep.

The Licking County Coroner’s Office had performed an autopsy on April 30th, but then sent the report to the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office for a final ruling.

Folden was the first person to die in custody since the jail opened in 2004.
