A 19-year-old Newark man has pleaded guilty to an April 17 robbery of the Duke and Duchess Shop on E. Main Street in Newark.

Officials say Christopher Swonger entered guilty pleas to one count of robbery and one count of petty theft Wednesday.

Authorities accused Swonger of going up to the cash register of the store and putting his hand in his coat pocket as if to indicate he had a weapon and told the clerk to give him all of the money.

When the clerk refused to do so, Swonger left the store.

Later, Swonger allegedly went to the CVS Pharmacy located on W. Main Street in Newark and stole a donation container that contained coins sitting on the counter.

Swonger was sentenced to a total of two years in prison.
