The St. Albans Township Fire Department recognized two northwest Licking County citizens Saturday with a certification of validation.

Fire Chief Michael Aldridge honored Johnstown residents Kevin Mahaffey and Craig Bigrigg for rushing to the aid of 18-year-old Nicole Kiser of Johnstown after her vehicle was involved in a rollover crash on Northridge Road July 7.

Bigrigg and Mahaffey worked to pull Kiser out of her vehicle which allowed her to receive treatment more quickly from the fire department.

Kiser was later released after being flown to the Ohio State University Medical Center.

Chief Aldridge said the two were also made honorary members of the department out of gratitude for the service they provided at the scene.

The chief made the presentation after the Alexandria Fun Days parade.
